چکیده

The sensitivity of the cortex to variations of its pH within the physiological range is striking.' It is highly probable that the activity of other organs is similarly affected by their acidity. The intimate relation of the blood and its capacity to condition these reacting systems is obvious. However, very little is known of the actual moment-to-moment fluctuations of the hydrogen concentration of the blood in living animals. It is important, therefore, that further knowledge of changes in blood acidity under various conditions be obtained, including not only the magnitude of the alterations, but also the speed at which they occur. The present paper reports observations on the pH of arterial blood under various conditions of respiration. Method

Effect on respiration of changes in the form of the naturally occurring oscillation in arterial pH.

We have previously shorn that the respiratory control system in the cat has the requisite sensitivity and speed to respond to changes in arterial pH which are equal to, or smaller than, the normal fluctuations in pH with respiration. A respiratory response was only observed when the changes in pH were produced by alterations in PCO2 and not when they were induced by non-gaseous acids. We descri...

Cisplatin cytotoxicity is dependent on mitochondrial respiration in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Objective(s): To understand the role of mitochondrial respiration in cisplatin sensitivity, we have employed wild-type and mitochondrial DNA depleted Rho0 yeast cells. Materials and Methods: Wild type and Rho0 yeast cultured in fermentable and non-fermentable sugar containing media, were studied for their sensitivity against cisplatin by monitoring growth curves, oxygen consumption, pH changes ...

Hematocrit and blood osmolality in developing chicken embryos (Gallus gallus): in vivo and in vitro regulation.

Hematocrit (Hct) regulation is a complex process involving potentially many factors. How such regulation develops in vertebrate embryos is still poorly understood. Thus, we investigated the role of blood pH in the regulation of Hct across developmental time in chicken embryos. We hypothesized that blood pH alterations in vitro (i.e., in a test tube) would affect Hct far more than in vivo becaus...

TEMPERATURE CORRECTION OF ARTERIAL BLOOD pH AND CO2 TENSION IN NEWBORN INFANTS: A NEW SOLUTION FOR AN OLD PROBLEM

The acid-base status and arterial blood gas change with temperature variation. To determine the changes in arterial pH and pC02, arterial blood samples of 50 neonates with different clinical conditions were examined at temperatures of 35 to 42°C with an increment of 0.5° C, which resulted in two nonlinear equations with perfect fit on data. The temperature correction factors of these equati...

تأثیر کاربرد پودر خون بر برخی ویژگی های بیوشیمیایی خاک اره طی فرآیند ورمی کمپوست سازی

This study aimed to recycle sawdust and blood powder using Eisenia foetida earthworm and investigate some biochemical changes of these waste materials during vermicomposting. Blood powder was mixed with sawdust in proportions of 0, 5 and 10% and the mixture was allowed to pass through earthworm guts for four months. At intervals of 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 16 weeks, the biological activity (i.e...
